About the
Play:
A kingdom
under siege. As the King contemplates surrender, his daughter comes to accept
that her betrothal will form part of the terms. When events take a turn for the
worse, her brother is left to deal with the consequences. Love and duty are
sacrificed to the politics of betrayal, and vengeance.
Inspired by
the traditions of Natyashastra (Indian classical theatre treatise), the Greek
Classics, and Japanese Noh, the play combines varied elements to convey a
timeless story using techniques that have been around for millennia, to a
modern audience.
Those
familiar with the Director’s earlier works, especially Tréteau and The Tragic Queen, will have an idea of the physicality, movement, and stagecraft involved
in this attempt.
Rehearsals are scheduled to start from mid-September for 2-3 sessions a week.
